Sean Athens is considered one of the most exciting talents in the German blues-rock scene. He picked up the guitar at the age of ten, and by fourteen he had a record deal with EMI in his pocket – including a performance at the sold-out Barclaycard Arena in Hamburg. Since then, he has shared the stage with greats such as Chris Kramer (Peter Maffay), Jini Meyer (Luxuslärm), Peter Freudenthaler (Fools Garden), ZOFF, and Steffi Stephan (Udo Lindenberg) – and even performed as a support act for Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top).

As a guitarist, singer, and songwriter, he impresses today with strong stage presence, emotional depth, and technical skill.

Whether on a European tour with Chris Kramer & Beatbox’n’Blues (winners of the 2016 German Blues Challenge) or as a participant in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis – Sean Athens lives the blues. Since 2025, he has also been performing as guitarist with Mitch Ryder, the Rockpalast legend, on stages across Europe.

Live, Athens turns into a volcano: virtuosic, energetic, emotional – and with a guitar that tells stories. Add to that strong songs that move between classic blues, rock, and modern influences – sometimes loud and driving, sometimes quiet and profound.

His debut album “TIME,” released in 2024, captures exactly that. Featuring top-notch musicians such as Thomas Blug (BluGuitar) – an internationally acclaimed guitarist with perhaps the most magical tone in Europe – and once again Chris Kramer. The result: authentic, modern blues rock with character and class.

In 2025, Sean Athens and his band also won the “German Blues Challenge” in Freiburg – a widely respected award in the European blues scene. This victory will take the band to Katowice, Poland, in 2026 for the “European Blues Challenge,” where they will represent Germany.
